Quilt raffle for Macmillan Cancer Support

The Busy Fingers Craft Group has made another quilt to be raffled in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The draw will be made at the Big Coffee Morning on 30 September in St Michael’s, Reepham.

The quilt is in two shades of blue – navy and denim – and will fit a single bed; there is a matching pillowcase to go with it. Both items were hand-sewn by members of the group.

Conservation volunteering and learning about wildlife

The Mid Norfolk Conservation Group has announced its Workout programme of free outdoor activities for August-September.

Local events include: tackling invasive ragwort plants at Cawston; keeping the pathway open Sparham Pools; a summer barbecue and work on the squirrel enclosure and boardwalk at Mayfields Farm, Foulsham; and improving the habitats for reptiles and wildflowers along the Themelthorpe Loop on Marriott’s Way.

Record amount raised at Sparham garden party

A beautiful day on Saturday 3 June saw a large number of visitors and villagers enjoying the varied attractions on offer at the Sparham Annual Garden Party.

The Grand Draw had prizes ranging from ski lessons to a selection of wines and local farm produce, which were all donated by local shops and businesses. The winner of the top prize of £100 cash was Janet Balderston.

New at the event this year was a range of birds of prey from Norfolk Wild Encounters, with visitors able to get a close-up view and stroke and handle these beautiful birds.

Volunteers needed to help clear Booton Common

In a late change of programme, the Norfolk Conservation Corps has been asked the senior warden of Norfolk Wildlife Trust to go to Booton Common on Sunday 9 July from 10 am, instead of the originally planned venue.

Volunteers will be trying a new way of tackling Himalayan balsam and hope to rake up mown vegetation that includes this invasive species, which is overrunning the Common.
