Danger in cemetery following Storm Doris

The storm of 23 February has left damage in Whitwell Road Cemetery, including on the left hand side facing away from the road, behind the central seat and on the edge of the cleared area.

Here a very large branch is hanging by a thread, and in the conifer tree behind another branch is lodged in the canopy. Therefore this area is extremely dangerous, particularly if the winds return.

Hazard tape has been put up, but this can blow away. Please avoid this area if at all possible until these matters can be dealt with.

Congestion around church on Saturday 24 September

On Saturday 24 September there will be a craft fair at St Michaels from 10 am – 4 pm and a party of bellringers will be ringing the bells of St Michael's from 3-4 pm.

On the same day there will also be a wedding at St Mary's at  3 pm, which will include the use of horse-drawn transport that may come via Church Street.

Clearly with these three events coinciding there is potential for traffic congestion in Church Hill, Market Place (east) and Church Street. Drivers may wish to avoid this area, otherwise to proceed with great caution and allow for delay.

Funeral of Bill Webber

The funeral of Bill Webber will be on Friday 16 September at 12.30 pm at St Mary's Reepham, followed by a cremation.

Please take care when driving in the area around Church Hill at that time.

Funeral of Hilda Rose

The funeral of Hilda Rose will take place on 30 August at 11 am at St Mary's Reepham followed by burial at the cemetery.

Please beware of traffic congestion around the church at that time and at the cemetery around noon.

Two funerals: Grace Edwards and Bob Dagless

Two funerals will be held in August at St Mary's Reepham, followed by burial in the cemetery:

  • Wednesday 17 August, Grace Edwards, 11 am.
  • Monday 22 August, Bob Dagless: 10 am.

Drivers are requested to take extra care near the church, particularly on 17 August, as that is a market day, also by the cemetery entrance in Whitwell Road.

Apologies for late posting, but we have only just recieved confirmation.

Grave of Annie Leeder 1992

The headstone on the grave of Annie Leeder 1992 in the Whitwell Road Cemetery has become unstable and dangerous.

Anyone having an interest in this monument or knowing the whereabouts of any family of the deceased, please contact the Town Clerk immediately. If there is no response the headstone will be laid flat in the coming week (15 July onwards).

Bicycles and beds information wanted

There are two bicycles chained to the posts outside the Bircham Centre which have been there for a number of weeks. The organisers of a charity bike ride have asked if they can have them if nobody claims them. Any information as soon as possible direct to the Town Clerk please.

Does anyone have any knowledge of a complete bed being left in the Whitwell Road Cemetery? This has been destroyed for health reasons but, once again, the Town Council would welcome any information.
