Apples that had fallen, and the many left on the trees that otherwise would have been wasted, were gleaned and distributed through FareShare, associated with Feedback Global, to those suffering from food poverty. The amount collected equates to 35,000 portions of nutritious fruit that would otherwise have been wasted.
 
Martin Bowman, UK gleaning co-ordinator at Feedback Global, said: “On behalf of Feedback Global, I would like to thank Targetfollow Group for giving us the opportunity to host this event, which despite the weather was a huge success, with many more apples gleaned than predicted. The majority of the produce has been distributed to FareShare, as well as a local foodbank and homeless shelters in King’s Lynn.”
 
Tina Moore, senior director at Targetfollow, added: “The hard work and effort that has gone into organising this event has definitely paid off, a success well deserving and one that Targetfollow can look to support again in the future.”
 
Targetfollow, which specialises in asset management and property development, has also diversified into sustainable agriculture and, through partnerships and tenants, locally produced products.
 
Feedback Global campaigns to end food waste at every level, and this event falls under the Gleaning Network umbrella.
 
Volunteers, farmers and redistribution charities work together to salvage thousands of tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables that are wasted each year and redistribute this to the people who need it most. They help raise the profile of food waste on farms, with a view to changing retailer policies and consumer cultures that lead to waste and reduce farm waste, which decreases the environmental impact of food production.
