Planning application refused for School Road ‘supermarket’

An appeal has been lodged with Broadland District Council after a planning application was turned down to demolish the Reepham Motors garage and erect a Co-operative convenience store at 31 School Road, Reepham.

In particular the Council considered the provision for only six parking spaces to be insufficient and would lead to further pressure on parking in the centre of Reepham, which is already limited.

Vehicles using the car park would be required to either reverse to, or from, the parking area, across the pavement and into the carriageway of busy School Road.

The site is also close to a junction, opposite a fire station with two schools in close proximity. Further, there is a lack of dedicated delivery area for HGV/large vehicles.

Overall, it was considered that the proposals would result in a detrimental impact upon highway safety, the general character and appearance of the area, the Reepham conservation area, the setting of several listed buildings and neighbour amenity.
