New toilet block at Whitwell Station gets Biffa grant

The new toilet block at Whitwell Station is being built with the support of a £50,000 grant from Biffa.

Towards the end of last year Broadland District Council approved plans for a new brick-built toilet block on the site of the temporary toilet block, next to the station.

The brick building has been designed to be in keeping with the existing station buildings, and will have disabled and baby changing facilities. A new septic tank has already been installed and the old toilet block has been temporarily moved to a new position next to the engine shed and connected to the new waste system.

Foundations have been laid and as of Friday 15 August the brickwork was up to waist height. The provisional completion date is the end of September in time for a Bentley car event on 12 October.

The Biffa Award is a multi-million pound fund that awards grants to community and environmental projects across the UK. The fund’s money comes from landfill tax credits donated by Biffa Group, which is a nationwide, integrated waste management business providing collection, treatment, recycling and technologically driven energy generation services.
