New trustees needed for Bircham Centre charity board

The Bircham Centre in Reepham is looking for new recruits for its board of trustees. The charity is looking for people who are passionate and enthusiastic about the town’s community and historic buildings; there are vacancies now and from April 2016.

A total 12 trustees help with different aspects of running the Bircham Centre, such as volunteering in the charity shop or the archive rooms, maintaining the historic walled garden or supporting the administrator with health and safety and building matters.

Located in the heart of Reepham’s Market Place, parts of the building date back to the 17th century. The Centre has a wealth of history and over the decades the trustees have enabled the building to remain open for community use in line with its constitution as a reading room, originally donated to the town in 1919 by Samuel Bircham.

Ian Boldero, current chair of the trustees, said his role is rather like that of a non-executive director, overseeing the governance of the building and charity, and ensuring the building remains part of Reepham’s past, present and future.

All proceeds raised through the charity are used to preserve the building and the facilities it provides to the local community.
