Weston Longville parish councillor to stand in county council election

Weston Longville Parish Councillor Ruth Goodall is the Labour Party’s candidate for the Reepham division in this May’s Norfolk County Council elections.

Mrs Goodall has been a parish councillor in Weston Longville for most of the past 30 years; has twice chaired the Parish Council; and led the group that produced the parish plan, which has been in place since 2008. She previously stood for the Great Witchingham ward of Broadland District Council in 2015.

Mrs Goodall has lived in Weston Longville for 36 years and has always been actively involved in the community. She has been a governor at Great Witchingham VA Primary School, a mentor at Reepham High School and ran the youth club in Weston Longville for about five years.

She said: “The villages which make up the Reepham division share many of the problems of being Norwich ‘fringe parishes’: how to maintain local services such as shops and post offices, deal with traffic and fly tipping, as well as trying to decide what kind of development is best for the future. They also experience the cuts in public services, such as adult social care, the police and the NHS.”

As a trustee of the village hall, Mrs Goodall originated and carried through the Three Parishes Project (Weston, Attlebridge and Morton), raising £430,000 to build a new village hall and play area, which opened in 2012.

She has served on the Eastern and London Regional Panel of the Veolia Environmental Trust and in 2014 was given a community hero award by Broadland District Council.

Mrs Goodall added: “I don’t underestimate the size of the task facing me if elected as your county councillor, but I can promise my serious commitment. “I believe no one should ever say, ‘there is nothing we can do, no one will listen’. My job will be to ensure that the voices of the people who live and work in the Reepham division are heard.”
