‘Remarkable’ toilets uncovered in Wood Dalling

Frustrated by the limited options available within the traditional sanitary-ware market, a company from Wood Dalling, near Reepham, is revolutionising the bathroom industry by offering customers something remarkable for their WCs and bathrooms.

The Remarkable Toilet Company (TRTC) offers a growing range of traditional and decorative bathroom and WC wares, helping customers turn their bathrooms and WCs into spaces to be both enjoyed and admired.

From handcrafted wooden thrones and “thunderboxes”, to Victorian-inspired floral toilet pans, Art Deco-style high-level loos to lavatories with a dash of Mexican flair, the company aims to offer something for everyone.

Director Kelly Allnutt said: “Having collected antique toilets we realised that toilets had become increasingly ordinary over the past 100 years. In the heyday of the Victorian era there was a plethora of visually appealing toilet pans available. However, in the aftermath of the Edwardian era, our toilet choice had shrunk to mainly plain white. It was with this in mind that we decided to reintroduce colour to the market.”

Established three years ago TRTC has supplied extraordinary toilets for clients around the world. Exports are growing and now account for around 30% of turnover. Recent projects include a number of gold toilets and a bespoke gold urinal for a top-end restaurant, a handcrafted oak throne toilet for a rectory and a Victorian Floral for the WC of a family home in New Zealand.

Almost all the toilets are manufactured in workshops across the UK, with sales predominantly online to a mix of interior designers and individual customers. “We are small enough to still be able to work with customers on a personal basis,” said Ms Allnutt.

Prices for TRTC’s toilets start at £350 for a traditional high-level toilet pan with flush pipe and cistern, up to £9,500 for a luxurious Versailles Palace-inspired handcrafted Lyonnaise toilet. The company also offers a selection of traditional and modern-styled toilet pans and bathroom suites from big name brands such as Burlington and Britton.

General manager Mark Guest added: “While there are products on our website to suit a variety of styles and tastes, for those who can’t find what they are looking for we also offer a bespoke service. Using our knowledge of the industry, together with our manufacturing expertise and capabilities, we can source or create whatever you may be looking for to turn your dream WC or bathroom into a reality.”
