Local artists opening pop-up art gallery

With the closure earlier this year of Rushlight Gallery in Reepham, a number of local artists have come up with a pop-up alternative.

Marion Steel, the owner of No. 21 Church Hill, has generously allowed the artists to use the shop on the corner of Ollands Road as an artist-led gallery.

Artists and Makers @Number 21 will open on Tuesday 19 September and from then on Tuesdays to Fridays from 11 am – 3 pm and Saturdays from 10 am – 3 pm. The gallery will also open on some special occasions, such as the classic car and bike event on Sunday 24 September, and bank holidays from 11 am – 3 pm.

Artists include Sue Johnston, Lorna Gray, Gloria Davis, Carolyn Penney, Emily Longhurst, Louise Maclaren and Tamara Goulding. Ms Steel will also be displaying her cashmere scarves on one side of the shop.

Works will cover paintings, original prints, ceramics, glass, photography, textiles and sculpture. The gallery also hopes to include a contingent of guest exhibitors in future.

Meanwhile, Louise Maclaren is starting her first printmaking workshops in the area. These will be held on 23 and 30 September at Cawston Village Hall and will feature a hand-printing press that can print both relief prints and intaglio prints. Spaces are limited but still available.
