New florist shop opens in Reepham

A new florist has opened for business in Reepham’s Market Place.

Sonia Burgess (pictured) has taken over the former Angelica Florist premises from Hilary Livesey, who has returned to her art studies.

The business in Ivy House is now trading as Flower Folk, having opened its doors in mid-November.

Originally from Birmingham and with a degree in fine art from Exeter College of Art and Design, Ms Burgess, who lives in Reepham, has extensive retail experience.

She has previously managed a shop in Exeter that provided flowers for events and hotels, where she began buying stock, and has also worked in the photography, styling and advertising fields.

Having moved to Norfolk in 2003 and after a career break to bring up two children, she then managed Norfolk Living, a gift and homeware shop in Burnham Market, and also worked at Angelica during holiday periods.

“I am now using all the experience I have gained in my previous jobs to create a florist shop that is accessible to everybody and will bring something different to Reepham,” said Ms Burgess, who was given enormous support and help from her family in setting up the business.

Besides offering a traditional range of flowers for weddings, funerals, parties and events and for general sale, Flower Folk will also be selling house and garden plants, as well as an extensive range of seasonal gifts for the home and garden.

“We want to be more than just a traditional florist and open to suggestions from customers,” she said. “We will also be able to source products, even items such as furniture, to order. So far we have had a lot of positive comments and encouragement from local residents and other businesses.”

As well as a range of affordable Christmas gifts, Flower Folk will shortly be stocking Christmas wreaths priced at just under £20.

Ms Burgess is also considering holding a number of creative floral workshops, especially aimed at children.

Flower Folk already has a Facebook page and hopes to have a website up and running in the New Year.

  • Flower Folk is currently open Monday to Saturday, 9.30 am – 4 pm (Thursday 9.30 am – 12 noon). Tel: 01603 879555
