Cricket club looks ahead to next season

With the last game of the 2018 season a fond memory, and the grounds at Salle and Reepham High School having had their final roll, talks now centre on winter nets and prospects for next season.

2018 was a year of mixed fortunes for Reepham & Salle Cricket Club, with the first team finding themselves demoted, but the second team finishing top of their league.

The Sunday side, now playing friendlies, proved popular and competitive, particularly with younger members.

The mid-week Twenty20 team also equipped themselves well; in the future the club intends to promote a mid-week Twenty20 team for the over-40s.

As usual, the youth training nights gathered a good crowd with more than 45 enthusiastic youngsters on Monday evenings. The club has now extended coaching evenings through the summer holidays and next season hopes to promote a girls team.

The U9 team were group winners in the NCL league and qualified for finals day at Horsford, finishing a creditable sixth. The U11 and U13 teams played in Alliance groups and equipped themselves creditably.

The club now has some vacant positions that it is looking to fill, in particular a new treasurer, as Bradley Marks is intending to step down.

The club is also looking for a membership secretary and a grants officer; if anyone is interested, please get in touch (email). An interest in cricket is not a requirement – and we do provide excellent teas.

The club is now taking a break, but the next committee meeting is on Monday 28 January at the Bircham Centre, Market Place, Reepham, at 7.30 pm; all welcome.

Youth cricket will restart in April; further information will be available nearer the time, but if interested please contact Paul Harwood (email).
