Stimpson's Piece needs your ideas

Stimpson’s Piece has been Reepham’s major recreational area since at least 1948 now covering about 13 acres, a little over 5 hectares, and it is held in trust on behalf of the residents of Reepham. Over the years it has been extended and additional facilities provided and it now offers a pavilion with a large hall, kitchen, bar and sports changing rooms, two full size football pitches with room for smaller junior and practice pitches, tennis/multi-sport courts with a separate club house, a skatepark and a well equipped children’s play area.

Community groups currently using the facilities include Reepham Town Football Club, Reepham Tennis Club, the nursery, Surestart, the baby clinic and the indoor bowls club. The pavilion is also being hired for private functions and for Zumba, Chilsong, slimming and keep-fit classes.

However, for a variety of reasons, the patterns of use of the facilities have changed over the years. Standards demanded by various official bodies change and, in some instances, Stimpson’s Piece has been unable to offer up-to-date facilities to enable groups to continue using the venue. As a consequence far fewer groups are now using Stimpson’s Piece than in the past and the reduced income necessary to maintain and improve the amenity has become a matter of concern.

The trustees of Stimpson’s Piece are actively looking for opportunities to increase the use of the recreation facilities, particularly by local community groups, and are also looking for ways in which the existing facilities can be improved to meet more modern requirements. If you are a member of a local group or an individual who might be interested in using the facilities at Stimpson’s Piece, or if you have any suggestions how we can make Stimpson’s Piece more attractive to users please contact either the Town Clerk or any of the Town Councillors, or Your Council Matters at yourcouncilmatters@hotmail.co.uk

Alternatively, why not get directly involved and join the Stimpson’s Piece Working Group?  You don’t need any special skills, just common sense. Use any of the contacts above.
