Reepham Town Council has raised a number of objections to the proposed housing development off Broomhill Lane.
The planning application (20200847) is for a residential development for 141 dwellings and an extension to the cemetery.
Noting that the original proposal was for 120 dwellings together with provision of a sports hall behind the high school, the town council has objected to the proposed housing density, quoting Broadland District Council’s 2016 site allocations document, which states that “the site will accommodate approximately 100-120 homes”.
The town council said it was concerned about the effect that such a large-scale development will have on the town, the increased demand on the already stretched infrastructure, including the sewage system, and the significant increase in the volume of traffic on Broomhill Lane, School Road and Whitwell Road, leading to an increased risk for pedestrians, especially children accessing both the primary and high schools.
Among other objections, the town council also noted that only 28 (20%) of the proposed dwellings will be “affordable” or “social” housing and has suggested that this be raised to 30%.
Reepham Town Council has contacted district councillor Stuart Beadle and asked that this application be considered by Broadland’s full planning committee.
In light of the government’s restrictions as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, the town council has also requested that a decision on the planning application be deferred until such time as public meetings can be held to discuss the application in an open forum.
