Food festival brings flavour back to the community

Last month’s Reepham Food Festival proved to be another success for stallholders.

The town’s shops, pubs and cafés were joined by more than 30 stalls from local food and drink businesses to tickle the taste buds of visitors.

Although one or two businesses did not survive lockdown, it was good to see new start-ups emerging and the return of many old favourites.

Alongside bakers, brewers and distillers, this year’s festival – the fifth annual event – welcomed a chocolatier, a cheesemaker and a dog biscuit baker among many others. Most reported a brisk trade and wish to return next year.

The main sponsor for the event was Central England Co-operative, which recently opened a new food store in the town.

Reepham WI assisted by arranging a series of demonstrations, including cocktail making, cheese tasting and an early practice at coronation chicken.

Reepham & District Rotary Club, which again organised the event, conducted a survey among stallholders at the end and after the food festival, which showed a near unanimous wish to return for another event in May 2023.

The club will be considering with others the form that the next festival will take and the resources and staffing required to hold it.
