Community centre receives generous donation of new benches

Two new benches have been placed in the gravel garden area at the front of the Bircham Centre in Reepham’s Market Place, thanks to a generous donation by Reepham Lions.

Earlier in the year, Reepham Lions approached the Bircham Centre trustees to see if there was anything they particularly wanted that would enhance the service the centre gives to the community in Reepham.

The response had been that they would like to offer residents somewhere to sit and watch the comings and goings in the market place.

The new benches were presented to Les West, chair of the Bircham Centre trustees, just in time for the Reepham Food Festival at the end of May.

Making the presentation, Lions president Barry Howes said: “The Bircham Centre is a hugely important resource for Reepham and very much at the heart of the community.

“We’re delighted to donate these benches. People are now able to sit and watch the world go by in our lovely market place, catch up with friends or just have a moment of quiet before continuing with their busy day.”

Bircham Centre manager Polly Brockis added that they were delighted to receive the gift of two new benches. “The timing was perfect, offering people places to sit for the food festival, jubilee celebrations and then into the future,” she said.

“General clearing and tidying of the frontage has been undertaken and support from Reepham Life is being used to plant up barrels so the centre to looks at its best for the summer events. Thanks are sent on to the numerous helpers.”
