The proposal from developer Lovell Homes, which includes an extension of the Whitwell Road cemetery, were due to be heard at a meeting of Broadland District Council’s planning committee on Wednesday 13 July.
 
Also to be considered were separate planning applications for a new sports hall for Reepham High School & College and widening of the Broomhill Lane junction with Whitwell Road and the introduction of traffic calming measures and a shared cycleway and footpath.
 
It is believed that insufficient notification of the meeting was given to objectors to the proposals, which were deferred by the planning committee. The date of the next meeting is scheduled for 9.30 am on Wednesday 10 August.
 
Ahead of the meeting, Reepham Town Council listed a number of objections to the plans, including the impact on the sewer system, traffic on adjacent roads, the loss of school playing field space and the level of affordable housing.
 
There are also concerns that there is no capacity for additional pupils at Reepham Primary School.
 
Broadland’s planning officers have recommended approval of all the plans, subject to certain conditions, despite accepting that they do not meet some of the council’s own planning policies, arguing that the conflicts do not undermine the overall objectives of its development plan.
 
If approved, the new development would increase the number of homes in Reepham by 12% compared with the 1,169 households recorded in the 2011 census. Of the new homes proposed, 39 (28%) are classed as affordable.
