New life for old windows

Keeping the Bircham Centre in Reepham’s Market Place watertight and safe is a bit like “painting the Forth Bridge” – there is always work to do.

Last year, thanks to a combination of grants and support for the centre’s Raise the Roof campaign, essential repairs to the roof were carried out.

This year the focus is on the building’s windows, with seven that are in urgent need of repair or replacement.

The Bircham Centre Trust has received a combination of grant funding from the Pilgrim Trust, which supports the conservation and preservation of significant historic buildings across the UK, and a generous anonymous donation to add to its maintenance budget, which has allowed the work to be scheduled for this summer.

This will be carried out by local craftsmen and will be in keeping with the listed building and all the old glass will be reused to maintain the look of the historic property.

The Bircham Centre relies on a range of funding sources to cover the cost of running and maintaining the building and providing the community the services it offers.

Grants play an important role for specific projects but local support in the form of donations, the charity shop, room hire and involvement in events allows the trust to meet its everyday costs.

One way to support the Bircham Centre is to join the 200 Club. For just £12 per number per year, members get the opportunity to win one of the monthly prizes of £25, £15 and £10. Anyone wishing to join should call in or send an email.
