Great War exhibition aims to put faces to names

Do you know any of the men listed on the First World War memorials in St Mary’s and St Michael’s churches in Reepham? Do you know of any who fought in the War that were from Reepham and are not listed?

Putting a Face to the Name: Reepham Remembering 100 Years, an exhibition and information gathering event, will be held in St Michael’s, Reepham, on Saturday 16 March from 10 am to 2 pm.

The memorial in the chancel of St Michael’s is a stunning stone sculpture that lists the names of 29 men who died and the 137 who lived. In St Mary’s there is a small plaque listing the names, regiments and year of death of 13 men.

To commemorate those listed on the two memorials, Reepham resident Ron Luton-Brown has started to gather pictures and details of those men, and so far has collected more than 70 pieces of information.

The project is still looking for more information about the men, where they went after the War, and the effect the War had on them and their families. The aim is that in 2014, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War, a full exhibition will be held with pictures and real life stories of those who fought and died.

If anyone has information on any of the names on these memorials or any other people with a Reepham connection, please contact Ron Luton-Brown 01603 871726. Email: roninreepham@yahoo.co.uk He would also like to know of any of the men who returned to the parish of Reepham and Kerdiston, as these are not listed.
