Through The Screen with Bawdeswell Village Cinema

We had a great attendance for the showing of ARGO at Bawdeswell Village Cinema. With great building of suspense, this film told the ‘true story’ (Hollywood version) of the rescuing of 6 American nationals from the home of the Canadian Ambassador during the siege of the American Embassy in Iran in 1979. As usual, Hollywood seems to ignore or as in this case, deny any British involvement. It seemed that the plan was not thought to be viable but due to outstanding nerve and courage, it was amazingly successful. It won three OSCARs and BAFTAs including both ‘Best Film’ categories showing us that Ben Affleck as Director has further talents we have not seen before.

Our next film in the Village Hall is QUARTET (12A) 13th April 7:00 for 7:30 start. A really great British comedy cast, (Maggie Smith, Tom Courtenay, Billy Connolly, Pauline Collins and Michael Gambon) this is the kind of comedy that only the British can do. This is a first major Director role for Dustin Hoffman. Based in a home for the mature, it has great fun with the problems of getting on in years interlinked with ‘Oh God, not you’ statements of ‘friends’ meeting again after many years. A true ‘feel good’ film. A must to see, laugh a minute film, so put it in your diary NOW – 13th April!!
