Another musical director for Iceni Choir

The Iceni Choir has appointed another musical director because of a change in circumstances for Harry Castle, who took over the post last year.

The Reepham-based choir’s new incumbent is Anthony Gowing (above), who has worked with the Gloucester Choral Society and Three Choirs Festival Chorus, as well as working with many top conductors.

Mr Gowing has experience working with and coaching singers in lieder (19th-century German art songs) and song, and is skilled as a choral director and freelance musician. His primary focus is as an organist and pianist, but says his “love of all spheres of music never diminishes”.

His work experience has been as assistant director of music at Gloucester Cathedral, director of Gloucester Cathedral Youth Choir, accompanist with Gloucester Choral Society, principal accompanist and organist of the 2013 Three Choirs’ Festival, and musical director Saint Cecilia Singers.

The Iceni Choir is looking for new members to join for an exciting new programme to encompass music for this year at Remembrance. Tenors and basses are particularly welcome.
