Lions club supports ‘hospice at home’ team

Earlier this year, Lisa Smith shared the moving story of her journey supporting her husband Andy after he’d been diagnosed with a brain tumour and had been given a short time to live.

Andy’s wishes were to spend his last moments at home with Lisa and he was able to do this with the support of the Hospice at Home Team and palliative care service of the Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust.

Lisa has found life difficult since Andy passed away, but she wanted to raise money for the care team so other people could to be helped in the way she and her family had been.

Although Lisa doesn’t profess to be a runner, with her sons Dean and Lee and Dean’s girlfriend Amelia by her side, and nursing an injury sustained from moving Andy, she completed a 10-kilometre run in July to raise funds for the Hospice at Home Team.

The family is nearing its target of £5,000 to which Reepham Lions has donated £250.

Used spectacles

Thanks to the public’s continued generosity, the first batch of used spectacles has been sent to Chichester Lions Club, where they will be sorted and forwarded to Lions International for despatching to children and adults in low and middle-income communities around the world.

There is now a second collection bin in Reepham located at The Crown on Ollands Road thanks to Glen and Lisa Mallett, as well as a collection bin in the Bircham Centre. Please continue to give so others are able to enjoy an improved standard of living.

Meanwhile, despite the inclement weather, Reepham Lions’ members sold raffle tickets at September’s Reepham Classic Car & Bike Festival and raised £1,000.
