Paul Dickson gave the first talk on Wednesday 21 September on the darker side of Norwich. The response from the audience was described as “enthusiastic” and the society is now in the process of organising more such talks.

The historical society is also having an open morning on the first Saturday of each month to coincide with the Cawston Parish Council drop-in surgery sessions.

The next event is on Saturday 5 November from 10 am – 12 noon at Cawston Village Hall, High Street, Cawston.

Anyone is invited to browse the extensive archive, meet the team and bring in any items that relate to the history of Cawston.

The village hall will be open for refreshments.

Memory boxes

Cawston Historical Society is also developing a number of memory boxes that people and organisations can borrow.

The boxes will contain items that may stimulate memories and provide prompts for those whose memories may be fading or who have fewer opportunities to engage in conversation.

Object handling and sensory stimulations such as scent are known to help with recall and make people feel better.

The tractors will assemble on the church car park in Elsing at 10 am (trailers to the field by the village orchard/allotments), leaving around 30 minutes later, bound for the Ringland Swan by way of Peaseland Green and Collens Green.

The vehicles will be returning via Lyng Easthaugh, Lyng, Fustyweed, Mill Street, Bylaugh and Swanton Morley, arriving back in Elsing by 2–2.30 pm.

Refreshments will be served throughout the day and there will be a fundraising raffle.
