Christmas in Reepham, as the event will now be called, is being organised by Caring Friends Mid Norfolk, which supports anyone affected by cancer, dementia or long-term health conditions.

This year’s festival will be held in the Market Place, Reepham, on Sunday 8 December from 5–9 pm and will feature locally focused stalls selling Christmas items, crafts, food and refreshments.

There will not be a Christmas lights switch-on, but the Market Place will already be illuminated.

There will, however, be a Santa’s grotto and hopefully a lantern parade by the local primary school, as well as a choir at around 6 pm and live music from 7 pm.

The event also coincides with Reepham Lions’ Christmas Tree Festival in St Mary’s and a craft fair taking place in St Michael’s.

A road closure will be in place on Sunday 8 December from 12 noon until 9.30 pm – all vehicles (except stallholders’ vehicles) must be removed from the Market Place and Church Hill by 11.30 am.

The Market Place will once again be filled with Christmas trees, music, activities and a wide range of stalls selling all sorts of goodies, including Christmas gift ideas and festive food.

Santa will be joining us and looking forward to chatting to the children in his grotto, where he’ll be handing out presents – but only if they’ve been good.

Children’s entertainment is being provided throughout the afternoon from Graham Andrew of Funforce.

ATMs can be found at the Spar, Ollands Road, and the Co-op, Station Road. Please keep dogs on a short lead to save people tripping over them.

There will be several other events also taking place on the same day.

The Reepham Christmas Tree Festival will be held in St Mary’s Reepham from Wednesday 29 November to Sunday 3 December. Opening times are 10 am – 4.30 pm Wednesday – Saturday, and from 11.30 am – 5.30 pm on the Sunday.

The church will be filled with 26 Christmas trees, sponsored and decorated by local businesses, individuals and groups, and visitors will be invited to vote for their favourite tree.

The Christmas tree festival is organised by Reepham Lions Club and entry is free, although visitors will have the opportunity to make donations, which will be shared equally between Reepham Lions and St Mary’s.

Meanwhile, the Reepham Artists & Makers Craft Event will be held in St Michael’s Reepham on Sunday 3 December from 11 am – 4 pm, featuring gifts in Fair Isle knitting, mixed media, textiles, watercolours, jewellery, glass, wood and sculpture, all made by local artists and makers. There will also be tea, coffee and cakes on sale.

Finally a Charity Christmas Fayre will take place in Reepham Town Hall, Church Street, on Sunday 3 December from 1.30–5.30 pm, including a face and glitter bar, children’s crafting and gifts. All proceeds will be split between Giraffe’s on Tour (in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital) and Leukaemia UK. This event is organised by Heart to Heart Home Care Agency. There will be Christmas shopping opportunities from the 20 stalls selling mistletoe, Christmas trees and a wide variety of gifts and goodies.

And you won’t go hungry with plenty of food stalls, including hog roast, pizza, sausage rolls, soup, mince pies, cakes and more.

The Christmas Tree Festival, organised by the Reepham Lions, is taking place on the same day in St Mary’s and a craft fair will also be held in St Michael’s.

So bring plenty of cash due to the Wi-Fi “black spot” in the town centre – ATMs can be found at the Spar and Co-op.

However, they have made arrangements for the festive trees to again be installed in the Market Place and these, along with the main tree organised by Reepham & District Rotary Club, will be in place from Saturday 5 December.

The Festival of Light team are extremely grateful for the generous financial support from Reepham Town Council and to Salle Farms for the donation of the 32 small trees, Royal Norwich Golf Club for the main tree and Reepham Rotary for their assistance in collecting and trimming the trees.

An atmospheric children’s lantern parade awaited the arrival of Santa in his shiny new sleigh. Having switched on the lights, he proceeded to his grotto, handing gifts to children assisted by his lively team of elves.

Entertainment in the square was led as ever by Graham Andrew of Funforce, with seasonal music from Reepham’s a cappella choir and the high school.

Further festive cheer was provided by more than 30 stalls, including food and drink, groups offering local crafts and Christmas trees from the Reepham Young Farmers.

The Festival of Light team is indebted to many local people and businesses that gave financial and other assistance, such as Salle Farms, which donated 32 Christmas trees to decorate the Market Place, and Norfolk Shepherd Huts, which provided Santa’s grotto.

The Reepham & District Rotary Club provided and erected the large tree and, together with other local residents, manned the road barriers.

The team is already looking forward to FOL 2020!

Heading up the family entertainment is Graham Andrew of Funforce, supported by Christmas choirs, Zumba dancing, music, games and snowballs.

The festivities will lead off with the children’s lantern parade from St Mary’s church at 4.45 pm.

Children and parents should gather in St Mary’s by 4.30 pm in readiness for the parade (please note this is earlier than previous years).

Any child wishing to join the parade may do so and can bring a torch or home-made lantern – but no candles or lanterns with naked flames.

Following the parade, Santa will arrive in magnificent style to his grotto.

Messy Church be held in St Michael’s, while metal detectorists will be on show in the Bircham Centre.

Around 30 stalls will be dotted around the Market Place, including a variety of food outlets.
