Coming home from the doctors with a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes Tracy knew it was time to do something about her weight once and for all. She knew she had put on weight but didn’t realise it was impacting her health.

Not wanting to go on medication Tracy, who lives in Reepham, decided to go back to the local Slimming World group. It had worked three years ago − she had lost just over one stone but now she had a reason. This time, she promised herself, she was going to stick with it.

Walking through the doors, she couldn’t believe she was doing this again, but everyone was really friendly and she was soon put at ease.

“I have a big appetite and I couldn’t believe I could eat as much as I could, there is so much variety,” Tracy said. “I can tweak meals to become Slimming World-friendly meals and I don’t even have to cook my family separate meals. The firm family favourite is Diet Coke Chicken.”

Tracy found that planning was key to success: making sure she was organised meant she was never going hungry.

Since joining Slimming World a year ago Tracy has lost 7½ stone. She had reversed her diabetes in the first six months and has gone to on to run 5k regularly at her local park run.

“Staying to group has really helped change my mindset,” she said. “My energy levels have increased and I don’t become breathless walking upstairs.

“I am more motivated and my confidence has grown so much. Never did I think I would be running a 5k let alone signing up for the Norwich 10k this year.”

The local Slimming World group is moving from Bawdeswell to Stimpson’s Piece Pavilion, Bartle Court, Reepham, from 2 April, with sessions on Tuesdays at 5.30 pm and 7 pm.
