Police to address illegal parking outside schools

Broadland Police are receiving reports from schools and members of the public of inconsiderate and illegal parking outside schools.

The police are urging those dropping off and collecting children to allow more time before they leave to park somewhere suitable further from the school entrance.

Alternatively, walk children to school or use a school bus if available.

Broadland Police are working alongside Broadland District Council and Norfolk County Council Highways to address this ongoing issue.

  • Police can be contacted on the 101 number.

Comment:

There is a shortage of parking in and around Reepham, and good old budget cuts have ensured that many children just inside the 3 mile zone of the high school are no longer entitled to free transport, this causes an increase in the amount of cars driving up to and parking in and around the High School. Again, the government, in its infinite wisdom, have decided to make all children aged 16-18 continue their education, but take away their entitlement to free school transport, and guess what, this means more parents are driving their kids to school particularly from areas outside Reepham town. The car park in Cawston Road is always full, the market place is always full and every side road near the schools are always full, little short of expanding the school car parks or giving the children sufficient transportation, this situation is never going to change ! One of my children currently cycles to school and says that the traffic is awful and dangerous on the approach to both the schools, the other is lucky enough to be entitled to free transport.
