Community asset listing explored as Whitwell Hall faces sale

Whitwell Hall Country Centre, long used by schools, scouts and other community groups, has entered administration and is expected to be sold by the administrators.

Reepham Town Council has been approached by a charity based outside Norfolk to apply for Whitwell Hall to be listed as an Asset of Community Value (ACV). ACV status can give local organisations additional time to prepare a bid should the property be put on the market.

However, the town council has confirmed it is not in a position to purchase Whitwell Hall itself. Councillors have agreed that an application for ACV status will only be considered if there is genuine local interest in bidding for the hall and taking it on for community use.

Local groups willing to explore the possibility of purchasing Whitwell Hall for community use are asked to contact the town clerk as soon as possible. This will help the town council assess whether there is sufficient interest before deciding whether to proceed with an ACV application.
