Bernard Matthews could close Great Witchingham operations

Bernard Matthews is reported to be considering closing its site at Great Witchingham with the possible loss of 600 jobs.

The loss-making poultry producer has already stopped work at its cooked meat processing plant in the village, where it has been based for almost 70 years.

This follows a review of the company’s East Anglian operations, which highlighted spiralling costs, ageing facilities at the Great Witchingham site and the impact of bird flu, as well as fewer people eating turkey, its primary product.
