Skateboard ramp closed due to safety concerns

To ensure the safety of children using the play equipment at Stimpson’s Piece, Reepham Town Council, as trustee of the Stimpson’s Piece Charity, has the equipment checked regularly.

Following an inspection this week the skateboard ramp was judged to be unsafe. It was then cordoned off with red and white tape and safety notices put in place explaining the reason for the closure.

However, on at least two occasions, the tape and notices were torn off by youngsters, who continued to use the ramp.

The town council is asking parents to instruct their children not to use the ramp as it is unsafe.

The council has now arranged for safety fencing to be erected around the ramp while it seeks further advice and agrees the action to be taken.

Councillors said they are aware that many children enjoy using the ramp but they have had no option but to close the ramp for safety reasons.

The town council is now seeking funding for a new concrete skate park to replace the existing facility.
