Improved mobile phone coverage coming to town centre

Work has started on the provision of a mobile phone mast on St Mary’s church in Reepham to improve the mobile phone coverage in and around the town centre.

According to Broadland District Councillor Stuart Beadle, it could take a couple of weeks for network coverage solutions provider Net CS to fully install the equipment, after which it will be up to Vodafone and Openreach to connect the site to the network and bring it live, hopefully within a few weeks of the equipment being installed.

Net CS has been working with the Church of England to improve the mobile signal in rural areas. It uses church buildings to host telecoms equipment to spread mobile signal to rural “not-spots”.

Over the past year Emily Burton, office manager at Heart to Heart Home Care Agency, has been campaigning to get a sufficient level of network and mobile phone coverage in Reepham.

She said: “Residents will now benefit, particularly those households that no longer have landlines and miss important phone calls, such as telephone appointments from Reepham Surgery.”
