A history teacher at Reepham High School & College is spending three weeks working at the Mchisu School in the Dedza region of Malawi through the Norwich-Dedza Partnership.

Karen Reynolds took with her a large box full of pens, pencils, notepads, rubbers and pencil sharpeners that were donated by the staff and students of RHSC.

Having heard what little equipment the students and staff at the Mchisu school have, the School Council felt they wanted to make a difference. With the encouragement of tutors, students of the Council from Years 7–11 advertised the week-long appeal at school assemblies.

Wheeling her suitcase down the school corridor when she came into school to collect the donations, Mrs Reynolds was greeted with “you’ll need a bigger suitcase than that” on several occasions.

They were right; she did need a much bigger suitcase, but thanks to the generosity of Norwich Airport she was allowed to take the entire box of stationery to Malawi free of charge, explained school council co-ordinator Linda Fuller.

As an additional incentive each student was given a raffle ticket for every donation made. The two winners of the £10 Amazon vouchers were Jess Von Ziegenweidt and Ella Hawes.
