Local voluntary transport service helping you to get out and about

Do you need transport to attend appointments? Transport Plus is a local voluntary transport service enabling you to visit your doctor, dentist, hospital appointments, opticians and, in some cases, shopping.

The service is available to adult members of the public who have no other means of transport and cannot access services using transport provided by family or friends, and also those not eligible for free transport (although some restrictions do apply).

A small charge is made to cover vehicle running costs; this is currently 45p per mile for the total miles covered by the journey. Please be aware that this service is unable to take people who travel in a wheelchair.

Transport booking requests can be made from 9 am – 5 pm Monday to Friday by phoning 0344 800 8020 (local call rate on BT landline; mobiles maybe more expensive), which is manned by Norfolk County Council staff for Transport Plus services.

Journey requests may be made up to two weeks in advance or a minimum of three clear working days’ notice.

In special circumstances, arrangements can be made for the voluntary driver to wait at the appointment venue for a maximum of one hour. For longer appointments, the driver will leave and return, which may incur an additional journey charge.

Priority will be given to journey requests within Norfolk, although out-of-county hospital requests will be considered.

If you want a price quote for a journey, please make sure you ask at the time of booking.

More information will be on display in the Bircham Centre, doctors’ surgery, library and town centre noticeboards.
