Cawston Parish Council says it is in regular contact with the various offshore wind farm developers and hopes to have details of the final traffic management schemes for Cawston by the end of September.

Following is the information available to date – this is provisional and may change.

Roadworks to set up the traffic management scheme are scheduled to run from 13 January to 20 February 2023 (weather permitting).

This includes a six-day complete road closure, with single-lane working for the rest of the time. It covers High Street from Norwich Road to the Marriott’s Way bridge. Cawston Parish Council has raised issues of parking and access.

When the actual cable route construction work starts, traffic for the Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm (Ørsted) will be a maximum of 40 HGV and 80 other vehicles per day.

Numbers for the Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas offshore wind farms (Vattenfall) numbers are 112 HGVs and approximately 200 other vehicles per day.

If the schemes overlap the worst case could be 152 HGVs and 280 other vehicles per day – less than 50% of the numbers being quoted originally, said Sarah Vergette, parish council clerk.

Construction is due to start in April 2023 for Hornsea 3, and across both companies is likely to continue through to 2028. Traffic will not be continuous during that period.

Cawston Parish Council says it is happy to try to answer any queries by email.
