Residents and visitors to Reepham will have noticed that scaffolding has been erected on the front northern corner of the Bircham Centre in the town’s Market Place. This is part of the first stage of the extensive repair work to the roof and attics of the building.

Those who have ventured into the Bircham Garden will be aware that the scaffolding continues across the whole of the back of the historic building.
Work has begun on the roof and chimney over what is the oldest part of the centre. This encompasses the wing extending back from the street frontage over what is now the book room, kitchenette and storeroom on the ground floor, and the Reepham Archive area on the first floor. This part of the building requires the most intensive repair with the removal of the roof tiles and remedial work to the attic structure.
The work has been possible due to a grant from Broadland District Council’s Pride in Place Community Grant scheme and fundraising by the Bircham Centre charity.
The Raise the Roof Campaign provided £10,000 of the total £40,000 needed.
