Could you support a lonely or isolated person in Reepham?

With loneliness a harsh reality for local communities across North Norfolk and Broadland, Voluntary Norfolk has been made aware of a number of people in the Reepham area who would appreciate someone who could visit on a regular basis and spend some time with them.

Some may be struggling with long-term health conditions that limit their ability to be part of the community; some may be isolated with few if any friends or family nearby; some may be lacking confidence after a fall and just need a reassuring presence alongside them as they walk.

Some may be the only carer for a sick spouse, partner or relative and are in desperate need of a friend to talk to or a little “me” time, but they all lead lives that could be transformed with a little bit of someone’s time, experience, goodwill or humour.

If you could give an hour or so, regularly or even occasionally, to change someone’s life for the better in Reepham, then please get in touch with Voluntary Norfolk.

The most popular activity is a simple coffee and chat, but, depending on what you wanted to offer, some people might like a short walk, a game or craft activity, a quick hand with something in the house or garden, or even a short trip out in the car.

You could visit someone by yourself, or, if you would prefer, you are welcome to enrol with a friend and do your visits together.

You will need to be 18 years old or over, willing to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which Voluntary Norfolk will arrange at no cost to you, and provide two references.

In return you will get induction training on the basics of befriending, the ongoing support of a co-ordinator and, above all, the immense gratitude of someone who will be so pleased to share some of their life with you.

If you would like to get involved, please contact Jonny Wood or Natalie Hickman at Voluntary Norfolk on 01263 519454 or northnorfolkvc@voluntarynorfolk.org.uk
